Network Service Features, Terms
Bandwidth Control
Bandwidth for conveying IP packets can be controlled. When a call is made or received, the system automati-
cally determines whether sufficient bandwidth can be reserved or not. If sufficient bandwidth is not remained,
the system restricts call origination or termination. The maximum bandwidth can be specified between two lo-
cations by using Location ID.
ToS Control
Type of Service (ToS) is 1-byte data field used in IP packet. ToS value is used to assign priorities to IP packets
that are exchanged in a network. Depending on routers/switches that are used in the network, IP Precedence or
Diffserve can be selected for assigning priorities. By using this function, voice packets, which is sensitive to
delay, can be forwarded preferentially to attain low-delay communications. Although the default ToS value is
basically used, the value can be modified so as to conform to the network conditions.
Virtual LAN (VLAN)
The following two types of VLAN are typical.
Port VLAN
VLAN is configured by data assignment of network devices. In case of Internal PH, VLAN can be configured
by port VLAN. For this type of VLAN, Layer 2 Switch (switching hub) with Port Base VLAN function is re-
quired.
Tagged VLAN
To identify VLAN frame, a unique ID (VLAN-ID or VID) is tagged for each packet sent from the IP terminals
and the PH/IPPAD Cards. To tag a VLAN-ID to packets sent from the PH/IPPAD Cards, ALIDL command is
used. Packets from the DtermIP can be tagged by key operations on the terminal.
[Advantages of VLAN Implementation]
•
Divides Broadcast Domain into small segments. (Each domain becomes smaller in its size, more in num-
ber)
•
Facilitates network maintenance such as Network Addition, Modification.
•
IP clients can be logically divided into groups, not depending on their physical locations.
PAD Control by Location ID
Appropriate PAD value can be set by using Location ID that is given on a network address basis. The PAD value
can be specified by specifying two Location IDs depending on terminal kind (DtermIP, Analog MC, IPPAD
etc.).
