The unit will be upgraded and the reboot will complete
Please note that this method relies on the TFTP Server address of the phone being set to the Call Server
providing the upgrade software. Please refer to the Using Setnet section from page 299 on details how
to view and amend this entry.
Upgrading remotely via Telnet
You will need to know the IP address of the PCS 58x which is displayed on the handset by pressing the
Settings icon
five times.
Alternatively, a list of the IP addresses for each IP phone can be viewed in Manager Assist by selecting
System Utilities and then IP Addresses.
You will also need to know the phone’s Password which is configured in Manager within the relevant
PCS 58x configuration form. By default this is set to 7388.
The PCS 58x can be upgraded as follows:

Within the Command Prompt on a PC connected to the system enter
telnet <ip address of PCS 58x>
eg telnet 192.168.0.248

When prompted for the Login name enter
diag

When prompted for the Password enter the password for this phone. By default this is
7388.
(The
Password is set within the relevant Phone’s configuration form.)

A hash (#) will appear, indicating that the previous entries where accepted and a command can be
entered.

Enter
upgrade loader <IP address of Call Server>
eg upgrade loader 192.168.0.1

When the hash (#) returns enter
upgrade now
or
upgrade now <IP address of Call Server supplying the software>
,
eg upgrade now 192.168.0.1

The PCS will reboot and automatically restart.
View the version of software via Telnet
The version of software being run on the PCS 58x can be viewed using Telnet as described above by
entering:
ver /mnt2/tpcs
Upgrading a PCS 58x on a remote site
If the PCS 58x to be upgraded is based at a satellite office, for example, and connected via a VPN, for
example, and if, during the upgrade, this connection went down the phone would become inoperable.
The getupg command can be used instead to download the software to the phone first and then the
upgrade will take place at the next reboot.

Telnet on to the PCS 58x as described above.

Enter
getupg <ip address of call server> admin <maintainer password>
eg getupg 192.168.0.1 admin password

The software will be downloaded to the phone.

When this process has finished the following will be displayed:
Upgrade files have been saved. Files will be installed at next reboot.
