5.
Functional Limitations
5.1.
The interrupts on the pause frame reception
Interrupt bit13 (pause_time_elapsed) will never get set for PFC pause, though interrupt bit12
(pause_frame_with_non_zero_pause_quantum_received) will get set for the reception of pause frames
including the PFC pause frames.
Therefore those interrupts are really useful for only the pause time monitoring by the standard legacy
802.3 pause frame reception.
5.2.
Priority Flow Control - pausing the transmitting the frames
Transmission of frames will not be paused by the PFC pause frame reception.
5.3.
Priority Queuing - screening using DS/TC field in IP header
When the frames with 0x00 at the IPv4 TOS field or at the IPv6 TC field are forwarded to the specific
queue, the queue has to be the default queue ( i.e. queue 0 ). Therefore there is no need of screeners to
do such a forwarding.
5.4.
Priority Queuing - screening using compare_offset = "10" or "11"
When only the byte matching is designated, screener type2 potentially produces a match for non-IP/TCP
frames, since it doesn't check the type of frames. To specify the type of frames to match, the ethertype
matching is needed to be enabled.
5.5.
Enable/Disable the partial store and forward mode
Partial store and forward mode is a static programming option, and it should not be changed unless the
ethernet link is down.
5.6.
PTP - single step time stamping
For the single step time stamping, the data in the SYNC frames will be corrupted, if the format of the
SYNC frame is of IEEE Std. 1588 version1 UDP/IPv4 multicast with VLAN tag.
The single step time stamping using the IEEE Std. 1588 version 1 frames is very rare use case. And this
limitation can be avoided by either of following workarounds:
−
Not to use the VLAN tags with the IEEE Std 1588 version 1 frames for the single step time
stamping.
−
Doing the two step time stamping if VLAN tagged IEEE Std version 1 frames will be used.
5.7.
PTP/gPTP - The ptp_sync_frame_transmitted interrupt
The interrupt bit21 (ptp_sync_frame_transmitted) won't be generated for the transmission of the multicast
SYNC frames satisfying all of the following conditions:
