Table 7-3. Valve On/Off Compensation Chart
At faster speeds, the time delays may play a critical part in patterns and accuracy. Therefore, if a valve takes 5.0 ms
to open, a 5.0 ms compensation time needs to be added to the start dimension. This will anticipate the start dimen-
sion by 5.0 ms so the valve will open early in order to start at the correct position on the box. Increasing the “on”
delay will move the start distance forward. Decreasing the “on” delay will move the start distance backward at
higher speeds.
The “off” delay also needs to be set. On a VC350A, SW2 in the “SHRT” position with a 0.5 ms “off” delay will
decrease the pattern length. This setting tells the control that the turnoff time of the valve is 0.5 ms more than the
turnon time. For example, if a valve has a 5.0 ms turnon time and a 5.5 ms turnoff time, you would set DS1 for a 5.0
ms time delay (switch 2 in the “up” position) and DS2 for a 0.5 ms delay (all switches in the “up” position).
5.0 + 0.5 ms = 5.5 ms turnoff time
As the “off” delay is increased in the “SHRT” position, the glue pattern will continue to get shorter. When the
turnoff delay needs to be shorter than the turnon delay, the SW2 needs to be set in the “LEN” position. When the
DS2 switches are set to increase the “off” delay, the glue pattern length will increase. If the “on” delay for a valve is
5.0 ms and the “off” delay is 4.5 ms, DS1 is set for 5.0 ms and DS2 is set for 0.5 ms with the SHRT/LEN switch in
the “LEN” position.
Therefore, when setting up a VC350A control, keep in mind the following:
•
The ratio compensation should be adjusted to achieve the dialed pattern length selected on the
thumbwheels at slow speed.
•
The cell-to-gun paramater should be the measured distance from the scanner to the valve, and not
adjusted for glue patterns. This adjustment will give the correct starting point of the glue line at slow
speed.
•
The “on” and “off” compensation delays should be adjusted at full speed to ensure pattern start and
length accuracy on each product to finish the adjustments.
Note!
The valve on/off compensation chart should provide assistance in setting these times. See Table 7-3 for
approximate delays for switch settings.
Note!
If delay times in excess of 10ms are desired, SW2 positions 1 and 3 should be in the up position to enable
pot adjustments of up to 17ms (on and off). Pots are then adjusted as described in the previous paragraphs.
