Section 4—General Adhesive Guidelines
Introduction
This section contains general guidelines only. Consult your adhesive supplier for specific formulas and recommen-
dations.
Viscosity
Contact valves:
1500-2000 cps (mps) at 72-75°F (22-23°C)
Non-contact valves:
300-800 cps (mps) at 72-75°F (22-23°C)
Solids Content
50-55% (no more than 60%)
Set Time
Medium
Storage Instructions
•
Protect the adhesive from freezing.
•
Store adhesives away from outside walls.
•
Store adhesive at room temperature for three to four days before use.
Notes
•
Fast-setting formulas will dry on nozzles more quickly. Therefore, it is necessary to wipe nozzles clean
before starting the system—even after very short periods of downtime.
•
Always use a good machineable grade of adhesive. You will have fewer problems if the adhesive does
not shear. Shearing adhesive can be responsible for clogged glue valves, clogged applicator heads, and
clogged nozzles.
•
Never use latex or starch adhesives.
•
Never use adhesives with extenders (fillers).
•
Do not mix resin-based and dextrin-based adhesives. Always check adhesive compatibility before
mixing.
