2a. Insert the power cord into the power-entry module.
2b. Attach the power-cord clamp, using the two screws on either
side of the power-entry module.
2c. Tighten the power-cord clamp to prevent the cord from working
its way out of the module and provide strain relief for the line
cord.
The supplied power cord can either be
directly wired to a branch circuit or, with
the proper plug type, plugged into an
outlet. The wire colors of the supplied
power cord are as follows:
An encoder must be installed in order for the control to determine the speed
of the parent machine. For best results, 100 pulses per inch (1 pulse per mm)
of product travel should be supplied to the VC350AG. Less than 100 pulses
per inch (1 pulse per mm) may result in poor pattern resolution. More than
100 pulses per inch (1 pulse per mm) reduces the maximum speed of 2000
feet/min with which the control can operate.
There are two primary types of encoders:
• Wheel-driven encoder
• Gear-driven encoder
The wheel-driven encoder (Figures 6-6 and 6-7) is common on folding carton
machines and some envelope machines. The encoder assembly is driven by
a measuring wheel that rides securely on the machine’s drive belt. The
assembly should be mounted so that the measuring wheel rides on a free
span of the belt. It should not be mounted over pulleys or rollers and there
should be sufficient tension between the belt and wheel to ensure that the
wheel does not slip.
