Glue Regulator, Glue-Pressure Gauge, and Gauge Protector
Installation
Filling Instructions
Water can be used as a fill liquid when the gauge protector (Figure 6-19) will be used at room temperature. How-
ever, an instrument oil with a stability range of 40°-300°F (4°-148°C) is recommended. The ease of movement of
the gauge protector diaphragm allows for a simple filling method with most gauges or instruments, as long as all of
the air is eliminated.
WARNING! The gauge protector, working in conjunction with a glue-pres-
sure gauge, is designed to monitor system pressure only. Proper safety
devices must be used in addition to this device to protect against system
damage or personal injury. Never rely solely on the pressure indicator
device. OTHERWISE, DEATH, PERSONAL INJURY, OR EQUIPMENT DAM-
AGE COULD OCCUR.
To fill the gauge protector, follow these steps:
1. Pour the oil into the upper gauge protector cavity (1/4" NPT side), tilting the gauge protector to several
positions to be sure that no air is trapped within.
2. Fill the upper gauge protector cavity to the top of the threads.
3. Fill the glue-pressure gauge with the same liquid and poke a thin wire (where applicable) into the orifice to
vent any trapped air bubbles.
Note!
A very small amount of trapped air should not adversely affect the accuracy of the instrument.
4. After filling completely, turn the glue-pressure gauge over quickly (to prevent liquid from escaping) and
screw it into the 1/4" NPT gauge protector port.
Note!
There should be no reading on the gauge protector and no movement of the glue-pressure gauge
when it is tightened, due to the ease-of-movement of the gauge protector diaphragm.
5. The gauge protector assembly is now ready for installation.
Installation Instructions
To install the glue-pressure gauge and the gauge protector, follow these steps:
1. Thread the glue-pressure gauge and the gauge protector to the glue regulator as shown in Figure 6-20.
2. Mount the glue regulator to the wall (see Figure 6-21 for dimensions).
Note!
The “T” handle is used to manually set the glue regulator to its minimum pressure. The air pressure
from the EPC causes the glue regulator to increase glue pressure to the maximum available. Two
pressure ranges are available:
•
0-60 psi/1-5 bar (commonly used with contact extrusion systems)
•
0-160 psi/1-12 bar (commonly used with non-contact systems)
