Encoder Encoder Encoder Encoder Encoder
To install a gear-driven encoder (Figure 6-8), follow these steps:
1. Install the drive gear on the line shaft.
2. Tighten the setscrews.
3. Position and install the encoder so that it is square with the drive
gear.
4. Raise or lower the encoder to tighten the belt against the drive
gear. (Ensure that the two sides of the belt are not pressed
together under the wheel.) Due to the low torque required, the
belt should not be extremely tight.
At least 7-9 teeth should engage in the
line shaft drive gear. It may be
necessary to fabricate an adjustable
bracket to connect the encoder base to
the parent machine frame.
A VDD encoder should be used with the VC350AG control. The cables used
to connect the encoder to the control are listed in
Section 12—Part-Number
List.
To connect the encoder to the control, secure the female end of the encoder
cable to the encoder. Then, connect the male end of the cable to the bottom
of the VC350AG. The encoder connector is the 8-pin round connector
labeled “Encoder.”
Make absolutely certain that this cable
does not run with AC voltage lines, and
that it will not get pinched in the
movement of the machine.
