Mounting the Encoder
An encoder must be installed in order for the control to determine the speed
of the parent machine. Your VC350AG Control system is equipped with a
wheel-driven VDD-1000 encoder and a 10-inch measuring wheel. For
optimal results, this setup supplies 100 pulses per inch (VDD-250w/a 250mm
wheel = 1 pulse/mm) of product travel to the VC350AG Control.
To install a wheel-driven encoder, follow these steps:
1. Mount the encoder bracket to the frame of the parent machine.
2. Ensure that the wheel of the encoder rides securely against the belt
and does not slip.
Note!
For best results, the wheel of the encoder assembly should ride
on the bottom side of the belt on the drive side.
Installing the BOARDRUNNER Glue Station
When the BOARDRUNNER Glue Station is shipped, it is ready for a 4th panel (drive side) top-down installation.
The scanner is initially mounted to view the product in line with the glue valve. The gap adjustment is set so that a
single-walled product (approx. 3mm thick) can pass through the glue station and remain in contact with the
applicator head.
The Setup Process consists of the following steps:
1. Mount the BOARDRUNNER glue station to the mounting rods.
2. Install the applicator head onto the 900 valve.
3. Purge all air from the glue line, then connect to the valve.
Purge the valve by activating the push button switch on
the valve.
Note!
Scanner and valve cables must be connected
before any purging can take place.
4. Run adhesive through valve until no air is present in the line.
5. Run the parent machine and Stop when product reaches the
glue station.
6. Adjust the glue station vertically to ensure the product is level.
7. To modify the ‘gap adjust’ (gap between the applicator head
and bearing bar guide), use the bottom hex nut found on the
upper left side of the BOARDRUNNER. Once the gap is set,
use the top hex nut to lock it.
8. If a tab side (operator’s side) installation is required, reverse the direction of the inlet guides and mount the
scanner bracket, valve bracket and bearing bar guide on the opposite side of the BOARDRUNNER.
9. The bearing can be adjusted (in and out) to optimize the glue pattern by guiding the board into the applicator
head. This keeps the board in contact with the applicator head through the entire gluing section.
