Usage Information
The
shutdown
command marks a physical interface as unavailable for traffic. To discover if an interface is
disabled, use the
show ip interface brief
command. Disabled interfaces are listed as down.
Disabling a VLAN or a port channel causes different behavior. When a VLAN is disabled, the Layer 3 functions
within that VLAN are disabled. Layer 2 traffic continues to flow. Entering the
shutdown
command on a port
channel disables all traffic on the port channel and the individual interfaces within the port channel. To enable a
port channel, enter
no shutdown
on the port channel interface and at least one interface within that port
channel.
The
shutdown
and
description
commands are the only commands that you can configure on an interface
that is a member of a port channel.
