Sequence of an External Call via VoIP
VoIP
In Internet telephony (VoIP, Voice over Internet Protocol), an Internet connection (for example,
DSL) is used for telephoning instead of an analogue or ISDN line. In this case, digital voice data
is sent as IP packets from one telephone to another. This functions the same way as the trans-
mission of a webpage over the Internet.
The transmission quality and the reliability of Voice over IP depends to a great extent on the
quality of the Internet connection used.
Sequence of an External Call via VoIP
An outgoing external call via VoIP is made as follows:
•
A user dials an external number.
•
The PBX checks whether the phone number or the phone number range is specified in the
exception numbers (VoIP/GSM routing) and switched on for the current configuration.
•
If the phone number is found, the PBX automatically forwards the dial attempt to the
connections set up there, while taking into account the dialling operations.
•
If the phone number is not in the list of exception numbers (VoIP/GSM routing), or it is not
enabled for the currently valid configuration, the system checks whether a preferred
exchange line has been configured.
•
If no preferred exchange line has been configured, or the preferred exchange line is a land
line connection, the system checks the phone number, on the basis of the LCR networks (if
LCR is configured and enabled), and then dials it on a land line connection.
Note:
The VoIP/GSM routing is performed depending on the destination number, if
the exchange line settings (subscriber, group) do not prevent this (e.g.
exchange line authorisation only for selected connections, preferred
exchange line, call restrictor).
If a call is initiated over a targeted VoIP access point, VoIP/GSM routing is not
carried out.
The special numbers provided by the VoIP provider, for checking one's
account status or dialling, for example, usually do not include a local code. It
is not possible to route numbers via the exception table. In order to correctly
dial these phone numbers, use targeted exchange line assignment with the
account number (targeted VoIP access point).
