100-Hour or Annual Engine Inspection for IO-390-D Series Engines
NOTICE:
Refer to the aircraft manufacturer’s recommendation as to whether this inspection is to
be completed every 100 hours of engine operation or annually.
The purpose of this inspection is to examine the ignition, EIS or magnetos, electrical systems, the
engine cylinders, and the exhaust system.
A.
Complete the 100-Hour Engine Inspection after the first 100 hours of operation since the
engine has been in service and then after every 100 hours of operation or during each annual
aircraft inspection (whichever occurs first).
B.
Copy and complete the 100-hour or Annual Engine Inspection Checklist for IO-390-D Series
engines as a record of engine service. Record the engine hours.
WARNING
BEFORE ANY ENGINE INSPECTION OR SERVICE PROCEDURE,
MAKE SURE THE IGNITION SWITCH IS SET TO OFF AND THAT ALL
POWER TO THE ENGINE IS DISCONNECTED. ENSURE ALL
OBJECTS/PERSONNEL ARE CLEAR OF THE PROPELLER’S
ROTATIONAL ARC. IF POWER IS ON, A LOOSE OR BROKEN WIRE
CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO START AND THE PROPELLER TO
TURN WHICH CAN LEAD TO DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY OR A
PROPELLER STRIKE.

Ignition System
CAUTION
NEVER INSTALL A SPARK PLUG THAT HAS BEEN DROPPED.
Remove, examine, rotate, clean,
and re-gap acceptable spark
plugs. Replace worn spark plugs.
Refer to Chapters 05-30 and
74-20.
Examine the continuity of the
engine ground straps.
Refer to the aircraft
manufacturer’s instructions.
EIS
Inspect the EIS for oil leaks.
Inspect the EIS manifold
pressure connection (if
applicable).
