9.4 Sterilising the Vessel after Fermentation
The vessel, the reagent bottles and hoses including the pump
heads and all components that have been in contact with the me-
dium must be sterilised again in the autoclave after the harvest
process and before cleaning. The vessel should not be sterilised
completely dry!
After the sterilisation process is completed successfully, the com-
ponents will be sterile and no longer carry a risk of microbial con-
tamination.
WARNING!
Microbial danger!
An incorrect sterilisation procedure may lead to a
microbial risk to the user when decontaminating
and cleaning
Therefore:
– Always sterilise the appropriate components af-
ter each use.
– Carry out the sterilisation process thoroughly
– Sterilise for a minimum of 30 minutes at a rec-
ommended minimum of 121 °C for decontami-
nation.
– Strictly follow local safety procedures.
WARNING!
Biological safety hazard!
Depending on the application, the vessel may be
still contaminated with microbial proteins, hazard-
ous chemicals in the medium or with radio nucleo-
tides after sterilisation. This may increase the
health risk of the operator and risk lower equipment
functionality.
Therefore:
– Strictly follow all biological safety regulations.
– Carry out a custom-designed cleaning after-
wards.
– Dispose of medium according to the local regu-
lations – sterilised medium only!
