6.6 Test Run
Initial operation includes a short test run. This involves re-checking
the basic functions of the equipment after installation before users
carry out the first fermentation/cultivation.
The basic functions are:
Temperature control (cooling / heating)
Stirring
Gassing
NOTICE!
It is also advisable to carry out this test run if the
equipment has not been used for a while.
The following description of the test run does not detail handling of
individual components, e.g. vessels, stirrer, sparger, etc. Detailed
descriptions of their handling are given in the corresponding chap-
ters of the main chapter “Preparations for Use”. The touch screen
software is described in detail in the separate manual.
Before starting the test run, check the following:
All required energy sources are available and ready for opera-
tion
All energy supply systems have the correct inlet pressures
NOTICE!
The following procedures relate to one bioreactor
(= 1 vessel). This test does not require an inlet air
filter or the exit gas cooler.
Carry out the test run as follows:
Procedure
1.
Fill the vessel with water to the working level.
For stirrers for bacterial cultures:
2.
Check that the drive shaft is correctly seated before fitting the
vessel's top plate. The lower end must be firmly seated in the
location bearing. If necessary, push the O-ring on the drive
shaft upwards as far as it will go.
