3.5.7 Gassing Cell Culture System
Basically, the entire gas entry takes place via the sparger.
Additionally, head space gassing with air is possible, too. This pre-
vents from accumulation of CO
2
in the head room and reduces
foam.
Optionally, CO
2
gassing can be used for pH control instead of liq-
uid acid. Gas entry also takes place via sparger.
The specific gassing rate, calculated for the max. working volume
is for each vessel size and each variant 0.1 min
-1
.
For head space gassing, this rate is 1 min
