6.2 STORMSCOPE LIGHTNING DETECTION SYSTEM
WARNING:
Do not rely on information from the lightning detection system display as the sole basis
for hazardous weather avoidance. Range limitations and interference may cause the system to display
inaccurate or incomplete information. Refer to documentation from the lightning detection system
manufacturer for detailed information about the system.
NOTE:
Stormscope lightning information cannot be displayed simultaneously on the same map as lightning
information from data link lightning sources.
The system can display L-3 WX-500 Stormscope lightning detection system information on the Stormscope
Page, and as an overlay on navigation maps. The system uses the symbols shown in the following table to depict
lightning strikes and cells based on the age of the information.
Lightning Age
Symbol
Strike is less than 6 seconds old
Strike is between 6 and 60 seconds old
Strike is between 1 and 2 minutes old
Strike is between 2 and 3 minutes old

USING THE STORMSCOPE PAGE
On the ‘Map - Stormscope®’ Page, lightning information can be displayed at the ranges of 25 nm, 50 nm,
100 nm, and 200 nm.
Adjusting the Stormscope Map Range:
1)
Turn the large
FMS
Knob to select the Map Page Group.
2)
Turn the small
FMS
Knob to select the ‘Map - Stormscope
®’
Page.
3)
Turn the
Joystick
clockwise to increase the map range or counter-clockwise to decrease the map range.
