Ignition timing check
NOTE:

Ignition timing is automatically controlled
by the CDI unit. Therefore, only checking
procedure is shown in this section.

Before checking the ignition timing, make
sure the engine idling speed is properly
adjusted.

Incorrect firing range

Check the igni-
tion system components.
Checking steps:

Start the engine and allow it to warm
up for several minutes.

Attach the engine tachometer and tim-
ing light the spark plug lead of cylin-
der #1.
Tachometer:

Timing light:

Aim the timing light at the flywheel
rotor assembly
1
and make sure the
stationary pointer
2
is within the fir-
ing range

on the flywheel rotor
assembly.

Increase the engine speed past 3,000
r/min and make sure the firing range
4
advances automatically.
NOTE:
If the firing range does not advance auto-
matically, check the ignition system com-
ponents.
