JOINTS/WELDMENTS/KF40/ISO 80/100 LINES
Caution:
Before opening any fitting, return that portion of the system to
atmospheric pressure by backfilling with nitrogen. If the fitting leads to the reactor, backfill
the reactor with nitrogen. After completing any work, restore the system to vacuum and
proceed with the leak checking.
Procedure 5-32: Leak-Checking Joints/Weldments
1. Spray helium around every welded joint on the system.
2. If a leak is detected then remove the welded pieces from the system and have a qualified person re-
weld where the suspected leak is or call Veeco TurboDisc Operations at 1-8TURBODISC.
Procedure 5-33: Leak-Checking KF40/ISO 80/100 Lines
1. .Spay helium at every flanged KF40 seal, all the way around the gasket.
2. If a leak is detected, remove the gasket and clean it with methanol and grease it with Fomblin vacuum
grease. Reassemble the flange and leak check it again. If a leak is still found, replace the gasket with
a new one.
LINES DOWNSTREAM OF THE PROCESS PUMP
Procedure 5-34: Leak-Checking of Water Lines
1. Put the system in the Idle state.
2. Flow hydrogen at the flow rate of ~1-2 lpm.
3. Use a hydrogen sniffer to check every gasket and valve on the lines after the process pump, all the
way down to the exhaust stack.
