TURBO PUMP
The (optional) Turbo Pump provides a high vacuum Transfer Hub option for the K465i GaN.
This option consists of a turbomolecular pump, ion gauge, and associated plumbing to
pump
down
the Transfer Hub with a standard vacuum pump, and then switch over to the Turbo
Pump to achieve 10-7 torr. The Turbo Pump, if applicable, must be used in association with
the
Transfer Hub
Backing pump, and is not capable of pumping down the load lock from
atmospheric pressure. The Turbo Pump requires minimal maintenance.
The operation of the turbo pump is identical to that of the standard non-turbo system,
except that there is a turbo pump in-line between the hub and the standard hub vacuum
pump. The hub is pumped through the turbo at all times. When the vacuum valve (that is
pumping the hub) is opened, the turbo pump will turn on automatically. By the time the hub
pressure is at an appropriate level for the turbo pump, the turbo reaches its working speed
and is pumping the hub. When the vacuum valve is closed, the turbo is shut off and the
controlled venting of the hub brings the turbo, slowly, to a stop.
Caution:
Never turn on any vacuum pump without first opening the pump’s output
exhaust valves and the input and output valves of the effluent handling system.
