LEAK-CHECKING THE TRANSFER HUB CHAMBER
The following steps describe leak checking the Transfer Hub Chamber connections that have
been opened during maintenance. For details regarding leak checking techniques for specific
components, and general leak checking concepts, refer to the Leak Checking section.
Notes:
Ensure that the gate valve between the reactor and the Transfer Hub is closed.
If the Transfer Hub will not complete the pumpdown process, there may be a gross leak in
the top seal. In this case return the Transfer Hub to atmospheric pressure and open the top
and clean and reinstall the top seal.
Procedure 5-16: Checking the Transfer Hub Chamber for Leaks
1. Open the valves isolating the Transfer Hub from the backing pump and pump the Transfer Hub
Assembly down to vacuum.
2. Close all valves between the Transfer Hub Chamber and any associated pumps.
3. Close all valves in any line leading into the Transfer Hub Chamber.
4. Make sure the leak detector is calibrated for helium (or the gas being used for leak checking).
5. Attach leak detector to leak check port and pump down the leak check port.
6. Put the leak detector in run or operate mode.
7. Leak check leak detector connection before opening the leak check port manual valve. Once leak
detector connection is leak tight, open the system manual valve to the leak detector.
8. Leak check the Transfer Hub Chamber, starting at the top which was removed during cleaning.
9. Leak check all VCR fittings and connections leading into the Transfer Hub.
10. When finished close the leak check port manual valve.
11. Turn off and disconnect the leak detector and cap off the port.
12. Open the valve between the Transfer Hub Chamber and the backing pump.
13. Open the leak check manual valve slightly to pump out the trapped air between the valve and the cap.
When finished close the valve again.
14. Return the system to the Idle state by following the

Maintenance
Shutdown
procedure in the
K465i GaN System Startup
section.
