5.1 Various Measurement Methods
5 - 16
This method has two steps. The standard addition method is
used for the first samples, and then the second samples onward
are measured according to the working curve generated by
using the first unknown sample and affected by co-existing
substances (See Fig. 5-10). So, this method is equivalent to
working curve generation with matrix-matched samples (matrix
matching method).
Fig. 5-14 shows the samples to be prepared. Use blank samples
which resemble the unknown samples in terms of acid
concentration, etc. Add to the standard samples (STD) a certain
amount of unknown samples and the standard solution of an
element to be measured after changing the concentration. Then,
mix the entire liquid samples with pure water, etc. You can
create working curves by taking into consideration the co-
existing substances as the STD includes the equal amount of
the unknown samples.
This method is effective for measuring a number of samples
similar in matrix composition.
In the ex-furnace addition method, standard-added samples are
to be prepared manually and set in the autosampler for
implementing the standard addition method. If mixing of
unknown and standard samples by in-furnace addition is
inadequate due to a reason such as a high viscosity of unknown
sample, the ex-furnace addition method should be used.
For the first unknown sample, prepare an aliquot in which a
series of standard samples were added as shown in Fig. 5-14.
For the second unknown sample onward, only the sample
corresponding to STD1 in the same figure needs to be prepared.
