N O T E : Tape shims and spacers together and tag
fo r proper relocation when control arm is rein­
stalled.
Installation
1. Place co n tro l arm in position o n b rac k et and install nuts.
Before tightening n u ts, insert caster and cam ber shims in
th e same o rd er as w hen rem oved.
2. Insert ball jo in t stu d in to steering knuckle and install n u t.
See specifications for torque values. Install new c o tte r
pin.
3. Rem ove adjustable su p p o rt from under co n tro l arm .
Install wheel and tire assembly.
4. Low er vehicle and check fro n t end alignm ent and adjust
w here necessary.
5. L ow er vehicle to floor.
UPPER A N D LOWER CONTROL ARM
IN N ER PIVO T SH A FT REPLACEMENT
Lower Removal
1. Raise vehicle and sup p o rt th e fram e so th a t co n tro l arm s
hang free.
2. P osition an adjustable floor jack u nder th e co n tro l arm
inb o ard o f spring and into depression in low er arm .
3. Install a chain over u p p er arm . Inboard o f stabilizer and
o u tb o a rd o f shock absorber as a safety m easure.
4. L oosen shaft end nuts.
5. Rem ove “ U ” bolts.

. Low er jack ju s t enough to get at shaft.
7. Rem ove shaft end n u ts and rem ove shaft.

Repairs
Bushings
1. Rem ove grease fittings from bushing o u te r ends and
unscrew bushings from co n tro l arm an d shaft.
2. Slide new seal on each end o f shaft and insert shaft into
control arm .
3. S tart new bushings on shaft and into co n tro l arm . Adjust
shaft un til it is centered in co n tro l arm , th e n tu rn
bushings in and to rq u e to specifications. Figure 11 shows
correct final positioning o f shaft. Check shaft for free
ro ta tio n and install grease fittings.
Installation
1. Install shaft to co n tro l arm an d install end nuts. Do n o t
torq u e nuts a t this tim e.
2. Raise jack and position shaft in to crossm em ber saddle.
Be sure to index hole in shaft to m ate w ith bolt head in
saddle.
3. Install “ U ” bolts. Do n o t to rq u e nuts at this tim e.
4. T orque cross shaft end nuts.
N O T E : The shaft should rotate by hand after the
nuts are torqued.
5. T orque “ U ” b o lt nuts.

. Rem ove chain.
7. Rem ove floor jack and low er vehicle to floor.
Upper-Removal
1. Raise vehicle and rem ove tire.
2. S u p p o rt th e low er control arm w ith a floor jack.
