GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The V
8
engines covered in this section are the 307 and 350
cu. in. engines.
This section covers th e removal and installation o f engine
assem blies; the rem oval, installation and adjustm ent o f some
sub-assemblies and replacem ent o f som e com ponents. F or
service to all com ponents and sub-assemblies (after rem oval)
and rem oval o f som e sub-assemblies, refer to Section
6
o f the
Chassis Overhaul M anual.
Because o f the interchangeability and sim ilarity o f m any
engines, engine sub-assemblies and parts, typical illustrations
and procedures are used (except where specific illustrations or
procedures are necessary to clarify th e operation). A lthough
illustrations showing bench operations are used, m ost single
operations, when n o t p art o f a general overhaul, should be
perform ed (if practical) w ith the engine in th e vehicle.

Rem ove engine cover and position it o u t o f way.
D isconnect b a tte ry ground cable at engine b lock and
b attery .
Drain cooling system and disconnect h eater hoses
en g in e; disconnect radiator hoses at radiator.
D isc o n n e c t autom atic transm ission cooler lines
rad iato r; remove rad ia to r shroud an d radiator.

Rem ove carburetor air cleaner and rem ove engine oil
filler tube.
Rem ove D elcotron and support b racket — position
assembly o u t o f way on left fram e rail.
D isconnect oil pressure gauge if so equipped.
D isconnect engine wiring harness at dash panel ju n c tio n
block.
D isconnect accelerator linkage at dash panel m ounted
bell crank.
D isconnect TCS system electrical leads-remove harness
from clips and position it to one side.
