COMPONENT PART REPLACEMENT
Windshield Wipers
W indshield w iper u n its on all m odels are o f the tw o-speed
electric type. A single w iper m o to r u n it, m o u n te d to dash
panel at top and to le ft o f engine cover inside cab, pow er b o th
w iper blades. The w iper blade operating link rods and pivot
m oun tin g s on these m odels are located in th e outside air inlet
plenum cham ber.
Arm Adjustment
T o adjust sweep o f blades tu rn on wipers, then no te sweep
o f arms. I f necessary, rem ove one or b o th arm s as follows: Pull
o u te r end o f arm aw ay from glass w hich will trip lock spring at
base o f arm and release spring from u n d erc u t o f pivot shaft.
While holding arm in this position, pull o utw ard on cap section
at base o f arm to rem ove arm . Arm can be reinstalled in any
one o f several p ositions due to serrations on pivot shaft and in
arm cap.
Wiper Arm Pivot Shafts and Link Rod (Fig. 2)
Removal
1. Rem ove w indshield w iper arm s from pivot shafts. P ro ­
cedure for rem oving arm s is explained previously u n d er
“ A rm A d ju stm en ts.”
2. Rem ove screws w hich atta c h outside air cowl v entilator
grille to cow l. C arefully rem ove grille from cowl.
3. A t center o f cow l, rem ove tw o attaching nuts w hich
attaches link rod to m o to r drive. Disengage link rods
from pins.
4. Rem ove screws w hich atta c h each arm transm ission pivot
shaft assembly to cowl. Rem ove pivot shaft assembly
w ith link rod from plenum cham ber.
Installation
1. Place pivot shaft assem bly w ith link rod into position at
cow l b racket. Secure assem bly to bracket w ith tw o
screws.
2. A ttach end o f link rod to m o to r drive and arm . Secure
rod w ith the tw o attaching nuts.
3. Install outside air cowl v entilator grille to top o f cowl.
4. Before installing w iper arm s, operate w iper m o to r
m o m entarily w hich should ro tate pivot shafts to park
position. Install arms.
Windshield Glass
The w indshield is a one-piece type and is retained in the
w indshield opening by a m oulded rubber w eatherstrip. This
w eatherstrip is sealed in the w indshield opening and sealed to
the w indshield glass.
When replacing a cracked w indshield glass, it is very im­
p o rta n t th a t the cause o f the glass breakage be determ ined and
th e condition corrected before a new glass is installed. O th er­
wise, it is highly possible th a t a small o b stru ctio n or high spot
som ew here aro u n d th e w indshield opening will continue to
crack or break the new ly installed w indshield especially w hen
the strain on the glass caused b y this o b stru ctio n is increased
by such co nditions as w ind pressures, extrem es o f tem pera­
ture, m o tio n o f the vehicle, etc.
The procedure for rem oval o f the w indshield applies to the
com plete w indshield assembly.
Removal
1. Before rem oving th e w indshield, m ark th e location o f the
break on the w indshield rubber channel and the body.
P ro te ct the p ain t finish inside o f the cab. Mask around
the w indshield opening and outside, lay a suitable cover­
ing across the h o o d and fenders.
N O T E : The windshield glass rubber w eatherstrip is
one piece. The glass is held in a channel w ith in the
weatherstrip (fig. 3).
2. Do n o t try to rem ove reveal m ouldings while windshield
is in body opening. Rem ove from custom w eatherstrip
