) CAUTIO N : In add ition to its fu n ctio n o f filtering air drawn in to the engine through th e carburetor, the air
cleaner also acts as a flam e arrestor in th e event th e engine backfires. Because backfiring m ay cause fire in the
engine com partm ent, th e air cleaner should b e installed at all tim es unless its rem oval is necessary fo r repair or
m aintenance services.
Paper E lem ent T ype — First 1 2 ,0 0 0 m iles, in sp ect elem en t for d ust leaks, holes, or other damage and replace if
necessary. If satisfactory, rotate elem en t 1 8 0 from original installation p o sitio n . R eplace elem en t at 2 4 ,0 0 0
m iles. E lem en t m ust n o t b e w ashed, oiled , tapped, or cleaned w ith an air hose. If so eq u ip ped, replace P.C.V.
breather filter every 2 4 ,0 0 0 m iles (do n o t attem p t to clean ). I f so equipped, clean w ire mesh frame arrestor every
1 2 ,0 0 0 m iles.
Oil Bath T yp e — T he o il level in the o il bath air cleaner reservoir should be ch eck ed every 1 2 ,0 0 0 m iles and
su fficien t S.A .E . 5 0 oil added w hen tem perature is above freezing or S .A .E . 20 o il added w hen tem perature is
b elo w freezing. A dding o il and servicing the cleaner w ill vary greatly, depending u p on operating con d ition s.
