COMPONENT PARTS REPLACEMENT
Shock Absorber (Fig. 1)
Removal
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Rem ove shock absorber pivot b o lt nuts and w ashers; pull
b o lts and rem ove from vehicle.
Installation
1. P o sition eye o f large end o f shock absorber up. Install
plain washer betw een shock and fram e. T hen, install bo lt,
plain w asher, lockw asher and n u t o n to bolt.
2. Align opposite end o f shock absorber w ith b rack et at
axle, install b o lt, w asher and n ut.
3. T ighten n u ts to specifications.
4. L ow er vehicle and remove from hoist.
Leaf Spring and/or Shackle
N O T E : A ll spring attachm ents, including center
bolts, are im p ortan t attaching parts in th at they
could affect the perform ance o f vital components
and systems, an d /o r could result in major repair
expense. They must be replaced w ith parts o f the
same part numbers or w ith equivalent parts if
replacem ent becomes necessary. Do n ot use replace­
m ent parts of lesser q uality or substitute design.
Torque values must be used as specified during
reassembly to assure proper retention o f these parts.
Removal (Fig. 2)
1. Raise vehicle on h oist so th a t tension in spring is relieved.
S u p p o rt Axle w ith adjustable lifting device.
2. Loosen, b u t do n o t rem ove, spring-to-shackle retaining
nut.
3. Rem ove n u t and b o lt securing shackle to spring hanger.
4. Rem ove n u t and b o lt securing spring to fro n t hanger.
5. Rem ove “ U ” b o lt retaining nuts, w ithdraw “ U ” b o lts and
spring plate from spring-to-axle housing attac h m e n t.
6
. W ithdraw spring from vehicle.
7. Inspect sp rin g -re p la c e bushings, repair or replace spring
u n it as o u tlined in this section.
Installation
1. P osition spring assem bly on axle housing. M ake sure
spring is in p o sitio n at b o th spring hangers.
