7. Rem ove spring.
Installation
1. P roperly p o sitio n spring on th e co n tro l arm , and lift
co n tro l arm .
2. P osition co n tro l arm cross-shaft to crossm em ber and
install “ U ” bolts and attaching n u ts. Make certain fro n t
indexing ho le in cross-shaft is lined u p w ith crossm em ber
attaching saddle stud.
3. T orque n u t to specifications.
4. Install shock absorber to low er co n tro l arm an d install
stabilizer b ar if so equipped.
5. Rem ove tool.

LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
C A U T IO N : A ll control arm attachments are im ­
portant attaching parts in th at they could affect the
perform ance o f vital components and systems, and/
or could result in major repair expense. They must
be replaced w ith parts o f the same part numbers or
w ith equivalent parts if replacement becomes neces­
sary. Do not use replacem ent parts o f lesser quality
or substitute design. Torque values must be used as
specified during reassembly to assure proper re­
ten tion o f these parts.
Removal
1. Place vehicle on hoist and rem ove spring as outlined
u n d er spring removal.
2. Rem ove c o tte r pin from low er ball stu d and loosen stud
n u t u n til to p o f n u t is slightly above to p o f th e stud.
3. Install Ball S tu d Rem over J-2 3 7 4 2 , position — large
cup end o f the tool over the u pper ball stu d n u t and
piloting th e th read ed end o f to o l on end o f th e low er ball
stu d . E x ten d b o lt from T ool J-23742 to loosen low er ball
stu d in steering knuckle. When stu d is loosened, rem ove
to o l and n u t from low er stud.
4. Rem ove co n tro l arm .

Installation
1. Install low er ball stud th ro u g h steering k nuckle and
tig h ten n ut.
2. Install spring an d co n tro l arm as o u tlin ed u n d er spring
installation.
3. T orque low er co n tro l arm ball stu d to specifications and
install new c o tte r pin.
4. Low er vehicle to floor.
UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
C A U T IO N : A ll control arm attachments are im ­

Removal
1. Place vehicle o n hoist, rem ove w heel and tire assem bly
an d su p p o rt low er co n tro l arm assem bly w ith adjustable
jackstand.
2. Rem ove c o tte r pin from u pper co n tro l arm ball stu d and
loosen stu d n u t one turn.
3. L oosen u p p er co n tro l arm ball stud in steering knuckle,
using T o o l - 2 3 7 4 2 position as show n in Figure 10.
Rem ove th e n u t fro m th e ball stu d and raise u p p er arm
to clear steering knuckle.
4. Rem ove n u ts securing co n tro l arm shaft to fram e. W ith­
draw co n tro l arm assem bly.
