10. Press the steering shaft u pper bearing o u t o f th e sw itch

c o n ta c t su p p o rt.

11. Rem ove th e shift lever housing seat and bushing from the

u pper end o f the colum n.

12. Rem ove th e bolt and screws from th e adjusting ring

clam p and rem ove the clam p, adjusting ring and low er
bearing. Press the lower bearing o u t o f th e adjusting ring.

3-Speed Columns—

Rem ove 1 st-reverse shift lever and

lever spacer.

Autom atic Columns—

Rem ove th e selector plate clam ping

ring screws.

14. Place the colum n upright o n the floor, supporting it w ith

tw o pieces o f w ood. Place a block o f w o o d on the upper

end o f the shift tu b e . Press dow n on th e shift lever w ith
fo o t while tapping on the w ood block to w ithdraw the

tube from the colum n jack et.

C A U T IO N : In some tolerance stack-up cases it may

be necessary to use a press. Be careful not to damage

the tube or jacket.

15. Rem ove the felt seal from th e shift tube.
16. Rem ove the toe pan seal from the colum n jack et.
