Move “ A IR ” lever (FR O N T ) to “ L ” “ M” or “ H ” position.
T urn “ TEM P” knob tow ard WARM (C ounterclockw ise) to
satisfy yo u r co m fo rt requirem ent.
To Operate Rear Air Conditioning Unit:
O perate fro n t u n it as above and move “ A IR ” lever (R E A R )
to “ L” , “ M” , or “ H ” position. R ear u n it will n o t operate
unless fro n t u n it is operating.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS
B oth units m ake use o f th e same six cylinder reciprocating
com pressor o f 12.6 cu. in. displacem ent.
The com pressor is identical to th a t used for th e F our-
Season system on all o th e r trucks. I t is m o u n te d to the engine
and driven by a belt fro m the crankshaft, using an idler pulley
fo r b elt tension adjustm ent. The condenser is m o u n ted in
fro n t o f the engine cooling radiator and the receive:r-
d eh y d ra to r is m o u n te d on the right side o f th e condenser. The
receiver-dehydrator and condenser are .identical, w ith either
C-62 or C-62 & C-63 systems.
The evaporator and blow er assem bly fo r th e C-62 system is
m o u n te d betw een th e tw o fro n t seats u nder a “ N O R Y L ”
cover. This cover incorporates th e co n tro l panel for eith er the
C-62 or th e C-62 and C-63 systems. The evaporator, expansion
valve, blow er m o to r, resistors, sw itches, and relay assemblies
are m o u n ted u n d ern e ath th e cover. The fro n t d istrib u to r duct
is located b etw een th e blow er and evaporator assembly and
th e engine cover. There are six o u tlets fro m th is duct
assem bly, tw o floor coolers and fo u r u p p er level m u lti­
directional coolers for the driver’s side and passenger side o f
th e fro n t seat area (Fig. 15).
The roof-m ounted system incorporates a blow er evaporator
u n it w hich is m o u n te d to the inner ro o f panel at th e rear o f
th e vehicle. On the Sportvan, an overhead central air distri­
b u to r d u ct, w hich contains adjustable o u tle ts, extends forw ard
from th e blow er-evaporator u n it (Fig. 16).
The C-62 refrigerant lines are ro u ted from the engine
co m p artm e n t along the right frame rail and then to the
evaporator u n it. When th e C-63 system is added, refrigerant
lines “ te e ” into th e C-62 lines a t the evaporator and are th e n
ro u ted across to the left frame rail, betw een the body inner
and o u te r body side panels, and th e n up th e left rear ro o f
pillar (Fig. 18).
The rear system differs from the fro n t system in th a t
refrigerant flow is split betw een tw o expansion valves and
follows separate piping th ro u g h the evaporator core before
flowing back in to one line after leaving the c o r e .
