4. Pry o ff th e tem p eratu re door cable eyelet clip and then
rem ove the bow den cable attach in g screw.
5. Rem ove th e d istrib u to r d u ct to h eater case screws and
pull th e d u ct rearw ard o u t o f the h eater case retainer.
6. Rem ove th e four h ea te r case to dash screws and then
rem ove th e h eater case an d core as an assem bly. T ilt the
case assem bly rearw ard at the to p while lifting up u n til
the core tubes clear th e dash openings.
7. R em ove th e core retaining strap screws and rem ove the
core.
8. To install a new core, reverse Steps 1-7 above.
H eater hoses are ro u te d from the w ater p u m p and th e rm o ­
stat housing to th e core inlet and o u tle t pipes as show n in
Figure 5. Hoses are a ttac h ed a t each end w ith screw ty p e
clamps.
Replacement
The h ea te r core can be easily dam aged in the area o f the
core tu b e a tta c h m e n t seams w henever u ndue force is exerted
on them . W henever th e h eater core hoses do n o t readily come
o ff th e tubes, the hoses should be cu t ju st forw ard o f the core
tubes. The p o rtio n o f the hose rem aining on the core tube
should th e n be split longitudinally. O nce the hoses have been
split, they can be rem oved from the tubes w ith o u t damage to
the core.
CENTER D ISTR IB U TO R DUCT
Replacement (Fig. 6.)
1. D isconnect th e b a tte ry ground cable.
2. Unsnap th e engine cover fro n t latches. Rem ove th e tw o
cover to floorpan screws an d remove the cover.
3. Rem ove th e heater core case and core as an assembly (see
“ H eater Core Case and C o re ..R eplacem ent” ).
4. D isconnect th e right h an d h eater o u tle t hose and th e tw o
defroster hoses fro m the distrib u to r duct.
5. D isconnect th e air and defroster door cables b y prying
o ff th e eyelet clips and rem oving the cable attaching
screws.
