N O T E : The shackle assembly must be attached to
the rear spring eye before installing shackle to rear
hanger.
2. Install shackle b o lt and n u t and position spring aligning
fro n t ey e—install fro n t eye b o lt and n ut.
3. Install spring retainer p la te and “ U ” bolts.
4. T orque all bolts to specifications.
5. Low er vehicle so th a t w eight o f vehicle is on suspension
com ponents and to rq u e affected suspension p arts to
specifications.

. Low er vehicle and rem ove from hoist.
Bushing Replacement
1. Remove spring as previously outlined.
2. Place spring on press and press o u t bushing using a
suitable rod, pipe or tool.
3. Press in new bushing; assure th a t tool presses on steel
o u te r shell o f bushing.
Spring Leaf
Replacement
1. Place spring assembly in a bench m o u n te d vise and
rem ove spring clips.
2. P osition spring in vise jaw s, com pressing leaves at center
and adjacent to center bolt.
3. File peened end o f center bolt and rem ove n ut. O pen vise
slowly to allow spring assembly to expand.
4. Wire brush and clean spring leaves. Inspect spring leaves
to determ ine if replacem ent is required; also replace
defective spring leaf liners a t this tim e.
5. Align center holes in spring leaves by m eans o f a long
d rift and com press spring leaves in a vise.

. Rem ove drift from center hole and install a new center
b o lt- p e e n bolt to retain nu t.
7. Align spring leaves by tapping w ith ham m er, then bend
spring clips in to place or install bolts and spacer if so
equipped.
N O T E : Spring clips should be bent sufficiently to
maintain alignment, b ut n ot tig h t enough to bind
spring action.
