de-energizes.

Inoperative V acuum
Advance Solenoid
C heck vacuum at sou rce, then
co n n ect vacuum gauge to ad­
vance unit port. With 12 vo lts
applied to so le n o id , solen oid
sh ou ld b e energized (vacuum
to distrib u tor). P roceed to
Step 2 i f so le n o id is n o t at
fault.

With th e ig n itio n o n , ch eck for
12 v o lts at tan lead to relay.
With 12 v o lts ap p lied at ter­
m inal w ith tan lead , ground
the relay term inal w ith the
b lack lead, i f after 2 6 se co n d s
the advance so le n o id d o es n o t
e n e r g iz e —replace th e relay.
Proceed to S tep 3 i f relay is
n o t at fault.
Step 3
Inoperative Tem perature
Switch
On a co ld engine th e vacuum
advance solenoid should be
energized, if n o t — ground
the wire from the cold ter­
m in a l
o f th e tem perature
sw itch. If solenoid energizes,
replace th e tem perature send­
ing un it. Proceed to S tep 4 if
unit is n o t at fault.
