3. T o free w indshield rubber channel o f w eatherstrip loosen
th e lip o f th e w indshield w eatherstrip from the pinchw eld
flange along the to p and a t the sides by applying pressure
w ith palm o f the h and to th e edge o f the glass. A t the
sam e tim e assist the lip o f the rubber w eatherstrip
channel over the pinchw eld flange w ith a flat bladed tool
such as a tongue depressor, or shaped m y c arta blade
(fig. 4).
b. Irregularities in b o d y opening.

Rem ove all sealer from flange and bo d y around w ind­
shield opening.
C heck flange area for solder, weld high spots, or hardened
spot-w eld sealer. Rem ove all high spots.
C heck windshield glass to opening, b y supporting glass
w ith six spacers contained in packet J-2 2 5 7 7 (Fig. 5).
Checking Windshield Opening
Due to the expanse and c o n to u r o f th e w indshield it is
im perative in the event o f a strain break th a t th e w indshield
opening be thoroughly checked before installing a replacem ent
w indshield. The replacem ent glass is used as a tem plate.
1. C heck fo r the follow ing conditions at th e previous
m ark ed p o in t o f fracture,
a. C hipped edges on glass.

C A U T IO N : Do n ot strike glass against body metal.
Chipped edges on the glass can lead to fu ture breaks.
N O T E : It is necessary to m o d ify the spacers by
cutting o ff 3 /1 6 " fro m the back o f the spacer w ith a
knife (Fig. 6 ).
5. W ith the w indshield su p p o rted and centered in its o pen­
ing, check the relationship o f the glass to the bo d y
opening flange around the entire p erim eter o f the glass
(Fig. 7).
6. C heck the relationship o f glass to opening as follows:
a. Inside edge o f glass to b o d y flange.
b. O uter edge o f glass to parallel bo d y m etal.
7. M ark areas o f b o d y m etal or flange to be reform ed,
rem ove glass and correct as necessary.
8. R echeck w indshield in its opening and if satisfactory
proceed as follows.
Installation
C A U T IO N : Always wear gloves when handling
glass.
1. A pply sealer to w eatherstrip and install on glass.
2. Install a cord around periphery o f w eatherstrip, leaving a
loop at th e top and the loose ends at the b o tto m as
show n in Figure 8.
