11. D isconnect E vaporation C o n tro l S ystem lines a t rocker
arm cover and a t carb u reto r—position lines to one side.
12. D isconnect pow er brake vacuum hose at rocker arm
tube-to-hose ju n c tio n .
13. Raise vehicle on a hoist and disconnect:
• F uel line (fro m ta n k ) a t fuel pum p.
• Engine ground strap(s).
• Steering idler arm a t frame.
• Steering p itm an arm at steering gear as outlined in
S ection 9.
• Stabilizer sh a ft at fram e brackets.
• B attery positive cable at starter.
• Shock absorbers at low er co n tro l arm .
• S peedom eter cable a t transm ission.
• TCS sw itch at transm ission—rem ove bell housing
m o u n te d clip an d position wiring to one side.
• Transm ission at crossm em ber.
• E xhaust crossover a t m anifolds an d a t m uffler.
14. R em over propeller shaft as o u tlin ed in Section 4 —install
plug in transm ission extension.
15. D isconnect clu tch linkage a n d /o r transm ission linkage
an d rem ove cross shaft as o u tlin ed in Section 7.
16. D isconnect fro n t brake pipe a t equalizer tee, disconnect
rear brake pipe a t left fram e rail m o u n te d connector and
a t right fram e rail m o u n te d co n n ecto r (Fig. IV ).
17. R e m o v e transm ission su p p o rt fram e-to-crossm em ber
attach in g n u ts —do n o t rem ove b o lts at this tim e.
18. Rem ove th e six (3 o n each side) vertically driven fro n t
crossm em ber-to-fram e attac h in g b o lts (Fig. 2V).
19. Rem ove th e fo u r (2 on each side) fram e-to-upper co n tro l
arm (inside) attach in g b o lts (Fig. 3V).
20. L ow er th e vehicle on h oist so th a t w eight o f vehicle is on
h o ist b u t w ith wheels touching floor and suspension at
curb height.
21. Install w ood blo ck betw een oil pan an d crossm em ber to
stabilize engine assem bly (Fig. 4V ).
22. P osition floor ja c k u nder vehicle so th a t jack pad is
aligned u n d er transm ission and, using a block o f w ood to
p ro te c t transm ission, su p p o rt transm ission w ith jack (Fig.
5 V).
23. Rem ove transm ission su p p o rt crossm em ber.
24. Rem ove th e fo u r (2 o n each side) rem aining suspension-
to-fram e (outside) retaining b olts (Fig. 3V ).
25. Raise vehicle slow ly, leaving suspension and pow er train
on th e flo o r, u n til sufficient clearance is o b ta in e d for
rem oving engine.
C A U T IO N : Check often when raising the vehicle
to make sure th a t all disconnects have been made
and th at vehicle is positioned properly on hoist.
26. Roll th e pow er train and suspension assem bly to th e
w o rk area and positio n jack stan d u nder transm ission
extension (Fig.
6
V )—rem ove floor jack.
27. Place floor ja c k u n d er suspension crossm em ber and raise
jack so th a t w eight o f assem bly is su pported on ja ck pad,
(Fig. 4V ).
28. A ttach lifting device to su p p o rt engine, rem ove engine
m o u n t th ro u g h b o lts and rem ove engine assem bly from
crossm em ber.
