General Instrument Setup
Access
: [SETUP]
Some basic instrument settings can be configured independently of the selected oper-
ating mode or application. Usually, you configure most of these settings initially when
you set up the instrument according to your personal preferences or requirements.
Then you only adapt individual settings to special circumstances when necessary.
Some special functions are provided for service and basic system configuration.

Reference Frequency
Access
: [Setup] > "Reference Int/Ext"
The R&S
FPL1000 can use the internal reference source or an external reference
source as the frequency standard for all internal oscillators. A 10
MHz crystal oscillator
is used as the internal reference source. In the external reference setting, all internal
oscillators of the R&S
FPL1000 are synchronized to the external reference frequency.
External references are connected to one of the [REF INPUT] connectors on the rear
panel. For details see the R&S
FPL1000 "Getting Started" manual.
The default setting is the internal reference. When an external reference is used, "EXT
REF" is displayed in the status bar.
OCXO Option
The OCXO (R&S
FPL1-B4) option generates a 10
MHz reference signal with a very
precise frequency. If installed, and if no external signal is used, this signal is used as
an internal reference. It can also be used to synchronize other connected devices via
the Ref. Out 10
MHz connector.
When the instrument is switched on, the OCXO requires an extended warm-up time
(see data sheet).
