Motors
Each Iron-core Linear Motor has one series-connected PTC thermistor per phase.
The thermistor can be used as a switch to stop the motor when the Motor Coil Unit is overheated, by
utilizing its characteristic that the resistance increases suddenly at around 110°C.
Iron-core motors also have KTY thermistors that enable the measurement of the average Motor Coil
Unit temperature.
The following graphs show the relationship between the resistance value and the temperature.
z
PTC
Note 1
The resistance value in a low temperature range is approximately 200
Ω
.
2
The resistance value increases suddenly when the temperature is at over 100ºC and reaches
approximately 2 k
Ω
or higher at 105ºC or higher.
3
The temperature detected by a PTC thermistor has an error of approximately ±10ºC. Take this error into
account and use the motor within the temperature range specified in the motor specifications. The upper
limit temperature is 130ºC.

Note 1
The resistance value has an error of 3% to 5%.
