5.4 Protection against radiation
Measures to be taken by the user/owner
The basic responsibilities of the machine operator are stated in the
European norm EN60825-1 – Radiation safety of laser systems –
and other similar international norms. Additionally, each country's
regulations apply.
For the jurisdiction of laws in the Federal Republic of Germany, the
accident prevention regulation "Laser radiation" (BGV B2) of the
employer's liability insurance association is to be strictly observed.
The owner of the machine must appoint a laser safety officer in
writing, unless the owner proves that he/she has the required
competence and monitors the laser system operation himself/
herself.
The responsibilities of the laser safety officer are defined by BGV B 2
and by the procedural guidelines of this accident prevention
regulation.
