Each welding head is assigned an AutoLas Plus characteristic
curve:

Note
The parameters AutoLas Plus characteristic curve and Welding
focus position = 0.0 mm need to be programmed in every General
welding table.
First of all, an approximate search is carried out on machines that
have AutoLas Plus. The deviation from the nominal dimension is
determined and the length of the welding nozzle is set to the newly
determined nominal dimension. After which a monitoring of the
results of the approximate search is carried out.
If the results check is satisfactory, then the fine search is started in
order to determine the Focus position offset parameters. The
pressure on the AutoLas Plus mirror is controlled by means of the
Focus position offset parameters. The focus position is determined
precisely. The focus shift

dependent on the beam length and the
component tolerances of the beam guidance components are
equalized throughout the entire working range by the AutoLas Plus
function.
For systems with a laser output of 5000 W or greater, the fine
search can be carried out in accordance with two different
strategies.
•
Fine search without power-dependent focus shift (Standard):
when fine search with power-dependent focus shift is not
applied at the system, then the focus position will be
determined once at maximum laser output. The Focus position
offset parameter is determined.
•
Fine search with power-dependent focus shift (needs to be
applied at the system): The focus position – the Focus position
offset parameter – is determined once with maximum laser
output and once with minimum laser output. The control
system calculates the Power-dependent focus shift from the
difference between the two values which have been
determined.

Focus shift is the alteration of the focus position across the entire working
range in relation to the divergence of the laser beam.
