6. RF generator
6.1 Notes on safety
Observe both the basic principles of electrical engineering for
working with high-voltage systems and the company and local
regulations.
When the generator is operated in accordance with the
instructions, it presents no danger to persons through the radiation
of high-frequency fields. Constructive measures ensure the
observance of CE guidelines (EMC guideline with limits for
radiation values according to EN 55011).
If safety covers are not provided or if safety circuits are bypassed,
there is a danger of electromagnetic fields being radiated from the
system. A sign on the RF generator points to this status.
A person operating the generator without safety covers, e.g. by
bypassing safety circuits when carrying out service work, is acting
with gross negligence.
Safe maintenance work Work on the generator must only be carried out by suitably
qualified persons.
You must, for your own safety, observe the described safety
information and -safety procedures for every type of work.
Cutting off the
power supply
Some parts of the generator may possibly have live residual
voltage even when the mains voltage switch is switched off.
Danger
Lethal voltage
Some parts of the generator may possibly carry residual voltage
even when the mains voltage switch is switched off. Carry out the
following safety precautions before commencing work:

Isolate and wait for the discharge time to elapse
•
Safeguard against unintentional restarting
•
Earth and short-circuit
Eliminating residual voltage
After isolating the generator, there is still residual voltage (in the
high-voltage power unit particularly) which is only slowly
discharged via the built-in discharging resistors. This voltage must
be safely discharged using a grounding rod.
