1.11 Additional Protection
In some applications, it may be necessary to provide additional protection to maintain the
protection level provided by the safety light curtain. Hard guards or additional presence
sensing devices such as safety mats or laser scanner, may be used to ensure the
operator is either forced to move through the sensing field to enter the danger zone, or
forced to stand on the sensing area inside the danger zone.
Hard guards should be installed permanently with the aid of a tool or welded (if possible).
If hard guards need to be automatically positioned, their positioning must be checked. It
must not be possible for operators to neutralize the detectors associated with these hard
guards. Hard guards shall comply with the following applicable European Standards:
