Procedure
Step 1
Use a terminal emulation program such as Hyperterminal. Connect a
serial cable directly to the ROADM-C40/40/OPM-3HU/2DC. No login
is required.
a) Type the shelf number directly and press the return key. Shelves
can be numbered from 2 to 20.
b) Disconnect serial cable from ROADM-C40/40/OPM-3HU/2DC.
c) Re-boot ROADM-C40/40/OPM-3HU/2DC to complete shelf
assignment.
Step 2
Open a telnet session using either Web GUI, Craft (CI), TL1 or Ele-
ment Mgr. At SERVICE MANAGEMENT screen:
a) Select the shelf number assigned to the first
ROADM-C40/40/OPM-3HU/2DC to be commissioned. (Shelf
number should automatically be discovered)
b) Select CREATE.
c) Select EQUIPMENT TYPE, eROADM-DC.
d) Select NEXT.
e) Change eROADM to IN SERVICE.

Click APPLY to submit changes.
Step 3
At the SERVICE MANAGEMENT SCREEN:
a) Select eROADM shelf number you just assigned.
b) Select PLUG D, and place MGT (PLUG) Port D IN SERVICE by
selecting NEXT, placing port IN SERVICE, and clicking APPLY.
Select the port SH - X - D (X being the eROADM shelf number),
place port IN SERVICE, then click APPLY.
c) Select PLUG U, and place MGT (UP) Port U IN SERVICE by
selecting NEXT, placing port IN SERVICE, and clicking APPLY.
Select the port SH - X - U, place port IN SERVICE, then click
APPLY.
d) Select OM - X - U (Upgrade Port U located on right side of eRO-
ADM chassis), place Port U IN SERVICE. Select port OM - X - U,
place port IN SERVICE, then click APPLY.
e) Select OM - X - N (Upgrade Port N located on right side of eRO-
ADM chassis), place Port N IN SERVICE. Select port OM - X - N,
place port IN SERVICE, then click APPLY.

Note
Management ports D and U are only placed in service if they are
being used in the configuration. Check your cabling plan.
