Shortening and Assembling DC Power Cables
ADVA Optical Networking delivers the DC power cords with a length of 3.0 m
(9.84 ft.). One end of the cord is without terminal connectors. Because of safety
and cable routing, ADVA Optical Networking recommends cutting the cords to
the proper lengths and terminating the ends with appropriate connectors.
Two power cables of the same length and with the same connectors constitute a
cable pair that belongs to a specific shelf. ADVA Optical Networking recom-
mends labeling each DC power cable for easy identification. The label should
include the following minimum information on each end of the cable:
•
Designation of the shelf (to which the cable will be connected)
•
Cable number
•
To/from information
•
Power A or Power B
•
Polarity of the wires
CAUTION
Electrical earthing hazard!
The DC-powered shelf is designed to permit the connection of the
earthed conductor of the DC supply circuit to the earthing conductor
at the equipment. See installation instructions below.

Note
Carefully note the polarity of any power connection. If the supply volt-
age is applied with the wrong polarity, reverse polarity protection
ensures that no current flows in the wrong direction and therefore
there will be no power at the PSU output.
WARNING
Only service personnel or a qualified/licensed electrician are allowed
to assemble the DC power cables with wire terminals on the open
end.

Note
The customer is responsible for terminating the power cables to be
attached to the external power source.
PS
Note
DC power cables for the SH7HU-R shelf are not delivered with the
equipment. The customer must make his own DC power cables. See
See
for cable specification.
