Step 9
Connect the shorter fiber patch cable (J/MM62/LC/DUP/0090/RED)
from the downlink port D of the SCU in the master shelf or the upper
main shelf to the uplink port U of the SCU in the lower main shelf as
shown in
.
Proceed as follows:
a) When you have to connect multiple shelves, complete two identi-
fication tags for each patch cable (J/MM62/LC/DUP/0090/RED)
and attach one tag to each cable end.
b) Remove the protective caps from the duplex LC connectors on
both ends of the J/MM62/LC/DUP/0090/RED patch cable and
store them in a small sealable container for later use.
c) Check the connectors on both ends for damage and cleanliness.
•
Inspect the connectors on both ends with the fiberscope.
•
If a connector is dirty, clean with a cartridge or pocket
cleaner.
•
Repeat the inspection and cleaning processes, as necessary.
d) Remove the dust cover from the SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC device,
installed in the downlink interface of the SCU in the master shelf
or upper shelf. Store it in a small sealable container for later use.
e) Carefully slide the duplex LC connector on one end of the patch
cable with the red marker up into the Rx and Tx connectors of the
SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC transceiver until you can hear a “click”.
f)
Tuck the fiber patch cable in the fiber tray and route it along the
vertical cable tie mounted on the left-hand side of the rack down
to the SCU in the lower shelf. The cable tie affixes the patch cable
to the side of the rack to reduce the risk of fiber pinching.
g) Remove the dust cover from the SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC device,
installed in the uplink interface of the SCU in the lower shelf.
Store it in a small sealable container for later use.
h) Carefully slide the duplex LC connector on the other end of the
patch cable with the red marker up into the Rx and Tx connectors
of the SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC transceiver until you can hear a
“click”.
Step 10 Repeat steps 2 through 10 until all main shelves in the NE are inter-
connected in this manner, as your hardware configuration requires.

Note
Dirty optical fiber can impair system performance. Always inspect and
clean the connectors before you make a connection.

Note
If the patch cable has been connected completely, the corresponding
LEDs on both modules should be green.
