Step 6
Mount the shelf to the rack as follows:
a) With a person on each side, lift the shelf to the bay and position it
with the attached brackets in the rack so that the bracket holes on
each side are aligned with the rack mounting holes or the cage
nuts.
b) Insert the corresponding rack screws with the proper washers.
c) Tighten the rack screws with an appropriate screwdriver.
Step 7
Attach the other end of the earthing conductor to the cage nut affixed
in
or to the pre-installed terminal connector used for the earth
point on the rack to ensure adequate earthing for the shelf.
Step 8
Insert the pozidrive screw with the proper washers when using a cage
nut or use an appropriate screw for the pre-installed terminal connec-
tor on the rack.
For more information, see the earthing instruction sheet that is part of
the earthing kit pack. The earthing kit pack is included in delivery.
Step 9
Tighten the screw with an appropriate screwdriver.
Step 10 Have the earthing connection tested.
Use a multimeter to check continuity between the shelf and the rack’s
earth point. You should measure zero Ohms of resistance.
Repeat
of this procedure for installing the other shelves
in their places in the rack.

Note
ADVA Optical Networking recommends having two persons to hold
the shelf in place while another service person secures it to the rack.
PS
Note
While positioning the shelf into the rack, keep hold of the earthing
conductor, which is attached on the shelf’s right-hand side or reverse
side, to not inadvertently jam it.
P
S
Note
When mounting the SH1HU-R/PF in a NEBS compliant rack make
sure that the steel stiffeners are fitted on the side panels of the shelf.
Front NEBS brackets and steel stiffeners are secured in place with
the same rack screws.
WARNING
Testing the earthing connection must be performed only by service
personnel or a qualified/licensed electrician.
