Step 11 Remove the dust plug from the uplink interface labeled “U” of the SCU
module installed in the master shelf and store it in a small sealable
container for later use.
Step 12 Insert an SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC device into the empty uplink interface
U.
Step 13 Pay attention to the corresponding port LEDs of the SCU module to
determine whether the inserted transceiver is accepted by the sys-
tem.
The U-T LED should be solid green, and the U-R LED should be solid
yellow provided that the main shelf is assigned. Refer to the module’s
LED indicator description in the
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Manual
for more information.
Step 14 Remove the dust plug from the downlink interface labeled “D” of the
SCU module installed in the last main shelf and store it in a small
sealable container for later use.
Step 15 Insert an SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC into the empty downlink interface D.
Step 16 Pay attention to the corresponding port LEDs of the SCU module to
determine whether the inserted transceiver is accepted by the sys-
tem.
The D-T LED should be solid green, and the D-R LED should be solid
yellow provided that the last main shelf is assigned. Refer to the mod-
ule’s LED indicator description in the
Maintenance and Troubleshoot-
ing Manual
for more information.
Step 17 Connect the long patch cable (J/MM62/LC/DUP/0500/RED) from the
downlink port D of the SCU in the last main shelf to the uplink port U
of the SCU in the master shelf as shown in
. Pro-
ceed as follows:
a) Complete two identification tags for the long patch cable and
attach one tag to each cable end.
b) Remove the protective caps from the duplex LC connectors on
both ends of the patch cable and store them in a small sealable
container for later use.
c) Check the connectors on both ends for damage and cleanliness.
•
Inspect the connectors on both ends with the fiberscope.
•
If a connector is dirty, clean with a cartridge or pocket
cleaner.
•
Repeat the inspection and cleaning processes, as necessary.
d) Remove the dust cover from the SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC device,
installed in the uplink interface of the SCU in master shelf. Store it
in a small sealable container for later use.
PS
Note
Dirty optical fiber can impair system performance. Always inspect and
clean the connectors before you make a connection.
