Procedure
Step 1
Take two SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC devices from the package and put
them onto a grounded surface or an antistatic mat.
Step 2
Check and prepare the pluggable transceivers as follows:
a) Make sure that the transceivers are the correct ones you want to
insert. It must be SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC devices. To quickly
obtain the adequate information, see the label of ADVA Optical
Networking on the top of the transceivers.
b) Inspect the transceivers visually for damage and impurities. If
necessary, use canned, dry, oil-free air to blow off any impurities.
If a transceiver is damaged, return it to ADVA Optical Networking.
Step 3
Remove the dust plug from the downlink interface labeled “D” of the
SCU module installed in the master or main shelf and store it in a
small sealable container.
Step 4
Insert the SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC device into the empty downlink inter-
face. For details on installing the pluggable transceivers, refer to the
Provisioning and Operations Manual
.
Step 5
Pay attention to the corresponding port LEDs of the SCU module to
determine whether the inserted transceiver is accepted by the sys-
tem.
The D-T LED should be solid green, and the D-R LED should be solid
yellow provided that the master/main shelf is assigned. Refer to the
module’s LED indicator description in the
Maintenance and Trouble-
shooting Manual
for more information.
Step 6
Remove the dust plug from the uplink interface labeled “U” of the SCU
module installed in the main shelf below and store it in a small seal-
able container for later use.
Step 7
Insert the other SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC device into the empty uplink
interface U.
Step 8
Pay attention to the corresponding port LEDs of the SCU module to
determine whether the inserted transceiver is accepted by the sys-
tem.
The U-T LED should be solid green, and the U-R LED should be solid
yellow provided that the main shelf is assigned. If the main shelf is not
assigned, the LEDs will be off. Refer to the module’s LED indicator
description in the
Maintenance and Troubleshooting Manual
for more
information.

Note
Insertion of a SFP/2G1/850I/MM/LC is automatically detected by the
management software. Each time a transceiver is inserted into a cage
of an SCU module, the internal network management system
receives a trap message.
Non-approved SFPs are not working, Rx and Tx off affected
interfaces will be disabled automatically.
