Connecting the
DC Power Cables to SH7HU and
SH1HU-F/2DC Shelves
It is assumed that the person performing this task knows standard electrical wir-
ing and connection practices, are familiar with power supplies, and are aware of
the precautions that should be taken to avoid personal injury and damage to
equipment.
Tools and Parts Required
•
Two power cords of the proper type and length for the specific shelf (one for
Power A and one for Power B).
The cables listed below are provided by ADVA Optical Networking:
•
A pair of 16AWG DC power cords (CBL/DC/300/2AWG16/TB) for
connecting the SH1HU-F/2DC
•
A pair of 14AWG DC power cords (CBL/DC/300/3AWG14/TB or
CBL/DC/300/3AWG14/FLT/R-/B+) for connecting the
PSU/7HU-DC and PSU/7HU-DC-HP
Three tab connectors are included in the delivery of a
CBL/DC/300/3AWG14/FLT/R-/B+
•
A pair of 14AWG DC power cables
(PC300/3WIRE/RED/BLACK/14AWG) for connecting the
PSU/7HU-DCand PSU/7HU-DC-HP
•
Phillips screwdriver size 1 to fix the protective cover to the terminal block
•
Phillips screwdriver size 2 for the terminal screws
This equipment should be present on site before beginning the connection pro-
cedure.
To connect the appropriate DC power cables, follow these steps:
Procedure
Step 1
Find the physical location of the shelf in the rack that is to be con-
nected to the external power source.
Step 2
Determine which power supply unit (PSU) is to be connected first
(e.g. Power A or Power 1).
Step 3
Select a power cable from the appropriate cable pair, and verify that:
a) the cable length is correct for connection between the power
source and the PSU;
b) the wires on the other end of this cable are assembled with the
proper terminals;
c) the terminals are in good order and that they are securely fixed to
the wire ends.
Step 4
If necessary, replace damaged or inadequately fixed wire terminals
immediately.
