Introduction
After FSP 3000R7 shelves and ROADM-C40/40/OPM-3HU/2DCs are mounted
to the rack and connected to the power, they must be interconnected through
Ethernet. The management connections between the individual shelves in an
FSP 3000R7 network element (NE) are established using the management
modules: the Network Control Unit (NCU) and Shelf Control Units (SCUs).
The NCU and SCUs provide the management and configuration capabilities of
the entire FSP 3000R7 system. Using management tools and Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP), the NCU delivers management information for
the FSP 3000R7 to the LAN or data communications network (DCN) and con-
nected management systems.
To achieve inter-shelf communication in the NE only the SCU modules have to
be interconnected in series, one after another, with the appropriate manage-
ment cables. The connection from shelf to the shelf is through optical Ethernet
at 1250 Mbit/s or Fast Ethernet at 100 Mbit/s data rates.
The SCU modules should already be installed in the shelves prior to intercon-
nection. If not, install them. For details on installing modules, see the
Provision-
ing and Operations Manual
.
Audience
This chapter is intended for Service Personnel as well as qualified and trained
equipment installers who need to perform cabling tasks. Personnel are consid-
ered to be qualified if they have the necessary knowledge and practical experi-
ence of electrical engineering to appreciate the various hazards that can arise
from working on the shelf, and to take reasonable precautions to prevent per-
sonal injury and equipment damage.
