Step 3
Locate the physical location of the shelf within the network element
where the module should be installed.
Step 4
Locate the slot where the optical module is to be inserted in.
Step 5
If installed, remove the dummy module to make space for inserting
the relevant module. Proceed as described in
.
Step 6
Take the optical module out of the cardboard box. Remove it from the
static-protective package and immediately place it onto a grounded
surface or an antistatic mat.
Step 7
Check and prepare the optical module as follows:
a) Make sure that the module is the correct one you want to install
(type, specifications). To quickly obtain the adequate information,
refer to the faceplate markings and the labels on the board cover.
b) Inspect the module visually for damage and impurities. If neces-
sary, use canned, dry, oil-free compressed air to blow off any
impurities.
If the optical module is dropped on a hard surface or damaged in
any way, do not install it. Return the module to ADVA Optical Net-
working for examination and repair.
Step 8
Insert the desired module into the empty slot as follows:
a) If you insert an optical module into an SH7HU or SH9HU shelf
hold the module by both screws as shown in
or by the faceplate.
b) If you insert an optical module into an SH1HU shelf hold the mod-
ule by both screws as shown in
or by the
faceplate.
NOTICE
Never reach into a vacant shelf slot. Contact with the
adjacent optical modules or the connectors on the
backplane could result in damage to the equipment.
NOTICE
Risk of electromagnetic disturbances!
Be careful not to damage the EMI shielding gasket on the
faceplate edges of the optical module when inserting the
it into the slot. Otherwise EMC compliance cannot be
achieved.
