Step 4
Locate power terminal A on the shelf. Using a multimeter, place the
positive lead on the -48 VDC terminal and the negative lead on the
RETURN terminal.
Step 5
Verify the multimeter reads -48 VDC. The unit will operate between
-40 and -72 VDC. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the power terminal B on
the opposite side of the ROADM-C40/40/OPM-3HU/2DC Shelf.

Installing the OTDR
This section provides a brief overview of how to install the OTDR apparatus.
The OTDR apparatus consists of two rack-mountable units:
•
test head controller (OTDR/THC/2HU/AC) unit, also called THC
•
optical test head (OTDR/8-OTH/1HU/AC) unit, also called OTH
Both units form a unified 3HU high whole with integrated AC power supplies
referred to as OTDR.
Specialized Knowledge Required
Specialized knowledge is not required for installing the OTDR.
General Considerations
When installing the your OTDR, consider the following:
•
The OTDR can be placed in a 19-inch, ETSI or NEBS compliant rack by
using the appropriate adaptor brackets.
•
For information about mounting the OTDR to your rack, see the instructions
from the rack manufacturers.
•
The OTDR apparatus requires 3 HU (133.35 mm = 5.25 in) of space in the
rack.
•
Where the OTDR is mounted in the rack is not mandatory. It is recom-
mended that you install the OTDR directly beneath or above the master
shelf.
•
For mounting in a rack, ADVA Optical Networking recommends having two
persons to hold the THC and OTH units in place while another service per-
son secures it to the rack.
•
Position the OTDR so that air can circulate freely around it.
•
The OTDR uses international safety standard three-wire power cables.
These cables serve as a ground when connected to an appropriate AC
power outlet. Use only the power cords supplied.
